From 30 June to 2 July, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) hosted the Trade Union Renewal Academy in Prague, Czech Republic, bringing together trade union representatives from across Europe. The Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK) was represented by Project Manager Birutė Daškevičienė, International Secretary Jonas Januškevičius, and Executive Board Member Bernardas Šatkovskis.

The three-day event aimed to strengthen trade unions’ capacity to adapt to the changing world of work, facilitate the exchange of good practices, and explore new approaches to enhancing trade union effectiveness, membership growth, and influence.

The Academy’s programme focused on trade union renewal strategies. Participants examined the key challenges facing trade unions today and discussed ways to strengthen their organisations through strategic organising, membership development, communication, digital engagement, and organisational transformation. The programme also explored future labour market trends and the role of trade unions in responding to these developments.

A significant part of the event was devoted to practical work in national and sectoral groups. Participants developed draft trade union renewal strategies, identified strategic priorities, and exchanged experiences with colleagues from trade union organisations across Europe.

The event also featured presentations by international experts, including Rafael Peels from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Daniel Gutiérrez from the German trade union ver.di. They shared insights into the future of work and discussed how trade unions can strengthen their role in an increasingly dynamic economic and social environment.

Participation in the ETUC Trade Union Renewal Academy provided an opportunity to learn about the latest approaches to strengthening trade union organisations, establish new international contacts, and bring valuable experience back to the Lithuanian trade union movement.
