On International Youth Day – a call to sign a petition

On August 12th the world celebrates the International Youth Day. It’s a day to remember how important it is for young people to have the right to live with dignity, work safely, and have opportunities to shape their future.

Today, we are especially drawing attention to the rights of platform workers – after all, many young people choose this kind of work and deserve a real protection. Under international law, every worker has the right to decent working conditions and fundamental rights. This applies to platform workers as well.

At the 2025 International Labour Conference (ILO), a decision was made that the regulation of platform work at the international level will be will be enshrined in the ILO Convention and Recommendation. This means strengthening the ability to regulate the activities of digital platforms at the national level, ensuring fair competition, and obliging platform companies to comply with labour law and fair rules.
By the way, this decision was achieved thanks to pressure from trade unions!

Now it’s time to speak about it more broadly and loudly: we call on you to sign the petition for the ILO Convention regulating platform work. This petition, with all collected signatures, will be presented to government delegations at the upcoming 2026 ILO Conference.

We demand:

  • Transparent pay and working hours;

  • Right to join trade unions;

  • Social protections (health insurance, pension contributions);

  • Fair dispute resolution process.

Platform companies are trying to water down these requirements, but we know that without guaranteeing essential rights, there can be no decent life!
