Cooperation in security sector to be strengthened following meeting with Danish colleagues

On May 11, Vilnius hosted the President of the Danish Security Workers’ Trade Union, Peter Jørgensen, and his Deputy Robert Anderson.

Together with colleagues from the Lithuanian Services Sector Workers’ Trade Union, discussions focused on opportunities for closer regional cooperation in strengthening social dialogue and worker representation in the security sector, as well as on deepening ties between trade unions representing security workers in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The meeting addressed the situation in the security sector, challenges in worker representation, the strengthening of collective bargaining, and the role of trade unions in defending workers’ rights in a rapidly changing labour market.

The discussions also covered joint projects, exchange of experience, and further cooperation with international organisations – the global services trade union federation UNI Global Union and the European services trade union federation UNI Europa.

It was emphasized that regional cooperation is becoming increasingly important in ensuring a stronger worker voice in multinational companies and in responding more effectively to sector-specific challenges.

Participants agreed on the need to develop a more active Nordic-Baltic partnership, strengthen regional activities, and place greater emphasis on the development of collective bargaining in the security sector. The importance of sharing best practices, coordinating actions on workers’ rights, and strengthening the role of trade unions in the region was also highlighted.

The next visit of Danish colleagues is planned for June 23–24.
