Negotiations on the updated National Collective Agreement gain momentum

Negotiations on the updated National Collective Agreement (NCA) for 2026 are now in full swing.

According to Artūras Černiauskas, Deputy Chair of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation, there is hope that an agreement on the new provisions will be reached as early as September.

He notes, however, that in order to ensure a smooth process and constructive dialogue, the negotiating parties – representatives of the Government, trade unions, and employers – have agreed not to make specific proposals public until the agreement is finalized. Once negotiations are concluded, the updated provisions will be shared with union members.

As a reminder, the current National Collective Agreement (2023–2025) guarantees important additional social and working condition benefits for trade union members working in state and municipal institutions, organizations, companies, and the public sector. These include extra paid days for self-education, volunteering, and health care, as well as improved conditions for training, motivational provisions, and social guarantees, among others.

As of January 1, 2025, the agreement is expected to apply to around 72,000 public sector employees – approximately 6,000 more than before.
