On November 14, after Inga Ruginienė, who was elected to the Seimas (the Lithuanian Parliament), took the oath of office, her mandate as the Chairperson of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK) was terminated. She was first elected as the Chairperson of the organization in 2018, and after four years, she was re-elected for a new term.
From November 14, the leadership of LPSK will be temporarily taken over by Deputy Chairperson Audrius Gelžinis. He was appointed as Deputy Chairperson at an extraordinary LPSK Council meeting held on October 1.
In 2020, A. Gelžinis was elected as the Chairperson of the Lithuanian Federation of Agricultural Workers’ Trade Unions (now the Regional Trade Unions Federation, RPF) and has been a member of the LPSK Board since then.
The interim leader of the organization will be elected at the LPSK Council meeting scheduled for December 6. The date of the extraordinary congress, where a new LPSK Chairperson will be elected for a four-year term, will also have to be set at that meeting.
